As you may know, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death for all women, and the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55. Both its cause and its cure remain undiscovered. Statistics show that 1 in 7 women in the New England area will get breast cancer. We started the Just ‘Cause Walk because we wanted to do something big -something that would challenge us. Walking 20 miles a day for 3 days is our challenge and we are hoping that you will partner with us in this effort.

On May 16th, 17th and 18th, 2008, a dedicated group of women will walk in the 6th Just ‘Cause Breast Cancer Walk. Unlike most of the more familiar charitable walks, we give 100% of the money raised to breast cancer organizations! Any administrative fees and walker expenses are paid out of pocket by the walkers and the walker volunteers. Our last Just ‘Cause 60-mile walk, with 41 walkers, raised $161,000. The two targeted recipients of the donations will be The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden (in Harvard, MA) and The Gillette Center for Women’s Cancers (at Mass. General Hosp.). Tax-free contributions can be made out to 'Just ‘Cause'. Remember that companies will often match your contribution!

The Gillette Center at MGH focuses on the medical research aspects of breast as well as ovarian and uterine cancer. The Gillette Center’s primary emphasis is treating and eradicating women’s cancers. Our money is earmarked for breast cancer research.

Incorporated in 2000, the Healing Garden is an educational non-profit organization. Our objective is to provide a healing environment that provides a range of complementary therapies, psychosocial support, educational programs and access to nature for those experiencing breast cancer. All therapies are integrated with and complementary to standard medical treatment for breast cancer. We are located within 10 acres of stunning gardens and woods, with many seated areas for reflection.
